July 2020 News & Views
Hello everyone!
What a difference a pandemic makes. Just when we were
discussing strategies for the future of the club, everything came to
a halt.
As you may be aware, Jay’s questionnaire was distributed to all
members earlier this year and we have received some positive
feedback. There were a number of suggestions in regards to
various items including club projects and fundraising, which would
involve a 50/50 draw. Your board hopes to meet (in a social
distance setting) in the coming weeks to discuss these future
I am happy to announce that we have added a few new members
to the club. Harold is now on board and has volunteered his
services at the Hatchery. He is fitting into the regular daily-duty
rotation quite well. We also welcome Michael and Dorthy
Frank continues to work on the membership listing and reminds
everyone to check your OFAH anniversary date and make sure
your memberships are paid before expiry’s.
It’s is important that we continue to grow our membership and get
new faces involved in club activities. A number of the executive
have been in current positions for a while and have expressed an
interest in handing over the reins. It’s for that reason, I have
attached our various board positions and encourage anyone
interested to please step forward.
As mentioned in an earlier e-mail, our vice president Gary is in a
London Hospital recovering from double by-pass heart surgery.
He is in good spirits and is expected to be home in a couple of
days. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
It has been a busy June at the club house and hatchery. Wayne
has worked very hard in clearing away brush and fallen tree limbs
as well as keeping the grass cut.
Al has managed to stay on schedule with our spring stocking. In
early June, more that 20 thousand Rainbow fingerlings were put
into Mill Creek by a small social distanced crew. Capacity in the
hatchery is lower than normal due to the fact no Rainbow eggs
were collected at the Thornbury Dam this spring. However, all
remaining fish are doing well and a stocking of Browns in the Fall
is still planned.
We continue to operate in unusual times and I’m not certain when
we will all be able to meet as a group. I know it would be nice to
have a get-together and share our stories of cabin fever and
Covid Projects. However, that is still some time in the future.
In the meantime, stay safe and healthy.
